Hungary to unconditionally support Moldova's European integration

Chisinau, 4 February /MOLDPRES/ - Parliament Speaker Zinaida Greceanii today had a meeting with Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Hungary Péter Szijjártó, on a visit to Chisinau, leading a delegation of Hungarian officials. Attending the meeting was the head of the parliamentary group of Moldovan-Hungarian friendship, Radu Mudreac.     

According to the parliament’s communication and public relations department, the officials exchanged opinions on the Moldova-Hungary relations and the prospect for their development. The sides were unanimous in the opinion that there were numerous similarities and quite good cooperation and friendship ties between the  two countries and nations.  

Zinaida Greceanii highly appreciated Hungary’s important support for the backing of Moldova’s European integration, provided both at the bilateral level and within EU.

For his part, Péter Szijjártó stressed that Hungary spoke out for an as close as possible cooperation with Moldova and would unconditionally back the country’s European integration. In the context, the Hungarian official welcomed the initiative on the signing of a strategic partnership between the two countries and of delegating two Hungarian diplomats for counseling the cabinet members on European integration matters. The diplomat assured that Hungary declared for the extension of the European Union, which needs new members and new success.      

As for the commercial and economic relations, the officials discussed opportunities of financing companies from both states, provided through Eximbank Hungary and which can be used for import-export transactions, for the setting up of joint ventures and for joint participation in tenders held on markets of third countries. Both Zinaida Greceanii and Péter Szijjártó expressed confidence that the meeting of the joint commission for commercial and economic cooperation, scheduled for next spring, would result in concrete far-reaching projects.     

In another context, the Hungarian foreign affairs minister hailed the fact that Moldova was promoting a balanced foreign policy – a principle shared by his country too. In this respect, the Hungarian diplomat highlighted Moldova’s advantages provided by the Association Agreement with the European Union and the capacity of observer of the Eurasian Union. The official noted that this position offered special value to Moldova in EU’s eyes.  

The participants in the meeting tackled also the problem of the Dniester river, in the perspective of the construction of a cascade of hydro-electric power station. Zinaida Greceanii asked for Hungary’s support on the international stage, in order to promote the message of preservation of Dniester’s biodiversity and the security of the residents’ safe supply with water. The speaker received assurances of solidarity on behalf of Hungary on this issue.   

In the end, the parliament speaker reiterated the gratitude of the authorities and citizens for the constant and sincere assistance Hungary had been providing to Moldova during years.
