Connected to the water main Soroca-Balti, the new aqueduct can provide access to quality water from the Dniester river for the Sangerei town and Bilicenii Vechi village, where more than 15,000 people live.

The works were carried out within the project, Balti-Sangerei aqueduct, the third stage and the water treatment station, financed from the National Fund for Regional Development (FNDR) and implemented by the North Regional Development Agency (ADR Nord). The ADR Nord acting director, Constantin Bandiu, has stressed that the access to the certain sources of drinking water was one of the most important goals in the infrastructure sector nationally, “as the drinking water means people’s health.”

For their part, representatives of the Sangerei district council said that “through the implementation of this project, decision-makers are willing to provide access to drinking water for almost 40,000 residents from the Sangerei district, thus creating a similar opportunity also for ten settlements from the neighbor Telenesti district, which is part of the Centru Development Region.”

Within the project, Balti-Sangerei aqueduct, the third stage and the water treatment station, a network of aqueduct of 17 km 835 metres, connecting the Balti and Sangerei settlements, a drinking water pumping station were constructed, a water disinfection station, three water towers were installed, etc. Also, a 4,891-metre-long branch water pipe was built from the Balti-Sangerei aqueduct to the Bilicenii Vechi village.

As much as 34.08 million lei was turned to account from FNDR sources for the full implementation of the project. This project is a continuation of a similar programme carried out by ADR Nord in 2013, within which about 15 km of water mains and a water pumping station were constructed.
