Moldovan president meets group of doctor-scientists

Chisinau, 9 April /MOLDPRES/- President Igor Dodon met on Wednesday with a group of doctor-scientists from Moldova, with administrative experience, and discussed the situation related to the coronavirus pandemic, as well as several proposals for the prevention and fight against the new type of virus COVID-19, the presidential press service has reported.

Attending the meeting were:

Gudumac Eva – PhD in medical sciences, academician of ASM, head of the Medical Affairs Committee of the Civil Society Council;

Magdei Mihail – PhD in medical sciences, main coordinator of the National Agency for Public Health, former Minister of Health of the Republic of Moldova;

Prisacari Viorel - PhD in medical sciences, consultant professor at the Department of Epidemiology, correspondent member of AȘM, former MP,

Holban Tiberiu – PhD in medical sciences, university professor, head of the department of infectious, tropical diseases and medical parasitology;

Plăcinta Gheorghe - PhD in medical sciences, university lecturer, head of the department of infectious diseases, dean of the Faculty of Medicine;

Spînu Constantin - head of the Department of Research and Innovation in Public Health, ANSP, PhD in medical sciences, university professor;

Cojocaru Victor – PhD in medical sciences, university professor, head of the department of anesthesiology and reanimathology No2.

Curocichin Ghenadie - PhD in medical sciences, university professor, head of the family medicine department;

Todiraș Mihail - PhD in medical sciences, pharmacologist, professor at the Max-Delbrück Molecular Medicine Center, Berlin (MDC), specialist in pharmacology and clinical pharmacology and anesthesiology and intensive care;

Gîțu Lora - university assistant, department of family medicine, secretary of the Medical Affairs Committee of the Civil Society Council.

The head of state briefly informed about the actions taken by the authorities in the field. Dodon noted that 400-500 tests are performed daily with the possibility to process up to about 2000 tests per day. At the same time, he said that an additional laboratory will be opened in the Transnistrian region and the regional laboratories will be trained. He noted that in order not to overload the hospitals involved in treating infected patients, a sorting center was opened at Moldexpo. The head of state also emphasized that more batches of humanitarian assistance will arrive soon in Moldova, including from China and Turkey.

During the meeting, several proposals were launched such as:

- competent and responsible informing people, including medical specialists about the danger of COVID-19 and measures to prevent and combat the virus. Transmission of social advertising through all media;

- empowering people when a large number of citizens ignore the recommendations and restrictions imposed by authorities;

- opening regional laboratories accredited for testing at COVID-19;

- improving legislation on patient and medical worker protection;

- strengthening the Infectious Diseases Hospital Toma Ciorbă in all compartments, especially the resuscitation department, setting up an intensive care line, diagnostic and treatment capacities etc.

Dodon welcomed the intention of medical teachers to support the actions of the authorities to combat and prevent the spread of the new type virus. He said that most proposals are under consideration and implementation.

The president pointed out that once the crisis is over, the attitude towards the medical system in the country will be changed significantly, and health system development will become a priority for the country's leadership.

Igor Dodon assured that the authorities will continue in the future an effective dialogue with the academic environment in various fields.
