Top European bank to support Moldovan cabinet's initiatives in modernizing health system

Chisinau, 14 April /MOLDPRES/ - Prime Minister Ion Chicu, at a today’s online meeting, discussed the financing of the national health infrastructure through instruments provided by the European Investment Bank (EIB), the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.

Attending the meeting were His Excellency, Ambassador of European Union to Moldova Peter Michalko, Health, Labour and Social Protection Minister Viorica Dumbraveanu and Head of the EIB Representation in Moldova Antonio Castillo.   

In the beginning of the meeting, Ion Chicu referred to the evolution of the epidemiological situation and the deficiencies of the national health system, which needs priority attention.

Peter Michalko said that, in conditions of epidemic, the importance of the health system and the quality of the medical services were quite well understood. He gave assurances about EU’s willingness to back the modernization of the national health system.

Antonio Castillo referred to the opportunity of financing provided by EIB for health and the Bank’s willingness to support the Moldovan government’s initiatives on the health system’s modernization. The official highlighted the possibilities to build new hospitals, as well as to finance the procurement of  medical devices for the current hospitals.  

Peter Michalko informed about the EU’s intention to support the national health system with needed materials for the management of the epidemiological situation and about more projects backed by the European Union for modernizing the national medical institutions, including for optimizing the energy consumption.   

The PM instructed to work out a list of priority projects to be financed by EIB.
