Government of Japan backs purchasing of 43 tractors for Moldova's farmers

Chisinau, 18 April /MOLDPRES/ - Forty three Kubota tractors have been bought with the support of Japan’s government for the implementation of the project titled, Conservation Agriculture – development of a sustainable soils management system in Moldova (2KR), and are to be delivered to farmers on the immediate period.  

„We are two friendly nations and we have always welcomed Moldova’s European integration efforts. At the same time, we know the important role of agriculture in your country. We will try to continue assisting the farmers of Moldova,’’ Ambassador of Japan to Moldova Yoshihiro Katayama said at an event on the delivery of tractors on 17 April.   

For his part, Agriculture, Regional Development and Environment Minister Ion Perju thanked the Japanese people for the support provided during more than 15 years within the 2KR Project.   

„The project has provided the farmers of Moldova opportunity of renovation and endowment with new technical means, in order to continue their work and increase the agricultural production. We are grateful for the support provided. There are more than 100 applications on behalf of farmers, who appreciate the advantageous terms of the 2KR project, the high quality of the Japanese agricultural technology and consider that the project has become a real chance for them to buy needed agricultural equipment in installments. We hope that we will manage to continue the project,’’ the minister stressed.    

On 17 April, the first four beneficiaries received acts for the tractors purchased.

A consignment of 106 Kubota tractors were bought in 2018, with the support of the government of Japan, in cooperation with the Agriculture, Regional Development and Environment Ministry and 2KR Implementation Unit, of which 60 tractors of 110 horsepower for stipulating the implementation of the conservation agriculture and 46 tractors of 87 horsepower, to carry out works in orchards and vineyards. Over 30,000 jobs were created and 50 per cent of all farmlands of Moldova were tilled through the contribution of the project and investments of local agricultural producers.
