Chisinau, 29 April /MOLDPRES/- Minister of Agriculture, Regional Development and Environment Ion Perju ordered that the inventory of all agricultural areas sown with autumn and spring cereals be carried out by next week, in order to set out the current situation, analyze the degree of drought damage and take measures. The decision was taken after a working meeting with the country's largest producers of cereals, as well as with representatives of all scientific research institutions in the field.
"In the context of the hydrological drought registered throughout the country, we ordered that, until the first days of May, the agricultural departments of the districts together with specialized households to carry out an inventory of all sown areas to know exactly the situation of cereals in each locality. Together with the academic environment we will analyze and decide what actions and agro-technical measures to take to ensure stable production and to improve the situation in agriculture ", he said.
According to the representatives of the Research Institute for Field Crops (ICCC) Selection, in the last six months, the total amount of atmospheric precipitation was 127.5 mm lower than the annual average, the average air temperature was 3.70 C higher than the annual average, and because of this, currently, the accessible water reserve in the soil (in the 0-200 cm layer) is three times lower than the multiannual average.
Maximum caution is needed when making the final decision regarding the reseeding of wheat areas, the basic criteria being the number of viable plants per meter, evenly distributed and the viability of the twinning node.
"If there is no rainfall in the next period, the situation will worsen on the areas where wheat and autumn barley were sown after sunflower and corn. In this situation, it is not too late for these massifs to be sown with agricultural crops that have a shorter vegetation period, but the rules for sowing and using herbicides must be observed. At the same time, if there is rainfall, we must keep the areas where there is a chance to harvest at least 1.5-2 tons per hectare, which can be used for sowing lots and to avoid importing seeds, "said Boris Boincean.
The yellow code of hydrological drought was announced in the Republic of Moldova in early March valid until 8 May.
