Chisinau, 17 June /MOLDPRES/ - The government of Moldova will start negotiations for the signing of an agreement with the government of Japan on the providing of a loan within the project, Modernization of agricultural technology and equipment. The Moldovan cabinet approved a decision to this effect on 25 March. Yet, this decision was to be re-examined today, so that it meets the legal grounds which appeared during time.

The agreement, compiled by exchange of notes, is aimed at confirming the Japanese government’s openness to offer a preferential loan worth 18.7 million dollars to Moldova’s cabinet, through the Japanese International Cooperation Agency (JICA). This money will be used for the implementation of the programme on modernization of agricultural machines and equipment from Moldova.

Presently, about 40 cooperation documents are signed between Moldova and Japan, most of them on the providing of financial and technical assistance to Moldova. At the same time, Japan is one of the principal sources of investments in the automotive industry from Moldova. Two big Japanese companies, Sumitomo and Fujikura, which became residents of free economic zones, opened wiring factories in Moldova. In the several last years, Sumitomo has invested 30 million euros in the opening of a factory with 2,500 jobs and Fujikura invested 20 million euros and opened about 2,000 jobs.

Also, decision-makers presently consider possibilities of enforcing a new programme on backing farmers, Post 2 KR, of continuous extension of Japanese companies’ investments in Moldova, on carrying out new projects in the social sector.
