Chisinau, 15 October /MOLDPRES/ - The Inspectorate for Environmental Protection might have right to verify the documentation of private people and legal entities about the origin of fish and other water organisms, in case of transportation and commercialization. The parliament’s commission for environment and regional development approved a draft on the amendment of the legislation to this effect today.

The goal of the draft is to exclude the phenomenon of illegal fishing and fish poaching in water objects from Moldova. Also, the document sees that the Inspectorate for Environmental Protection might be empowered to impose fines for non-observance of the legislation.

Presently, according to the provisions of the Contravention Code, the violation of the rules of carriage and sale of fish products and other water organisms is found out and considered by employees of the National Food Safety Agency (ANSA), which monitor only the quality of products. Their origin is not checked by any institution.

Starting from 1 April 2016, the industrial and commercial fishing was banned in Moldova, in order to preserve the water biological resources and ensure their reestablishment. Presently, the aquaculture is limited to several species of fish: carp, crucian, African salmon and others.
