Moldovan electoral body informs contenders they can ask for accrediation of observers for presidential polls

Chisinau, 16 October /MOLDPRES/ - The Central Electoral Commission (CEC) has informed the electoral contenders that they can ask for the accreditation of observers for monitoring the elections of Moldova’s president, due on 1 November 2020.

According to the CEC’s press service, at a request by the electoral contenders, the district electoral council accredits by one observer for monitoring the ballot in the polling stations opened in Moldova and by one observer for each polling station from abroad.

The Commission said that the observers accredited had right to attend all electoral operations, including the verification, sealing and opening of the ballot boxes, as well as the counting and tabulation of the elections’ results.

Applications on accreditation can be submitted also by international organizations, diplomatic missions accredited in Moldova, governments of foreign countries and qualified public associations of the country and from abroad.   

The deadline for submitting applications on accreditation to CEC or electoral councils is 24 October 2020. The observers accredited can continue working in the runoff of the ballot as well.
