Chisinau, 19 October /MOLDPRES/ - The Technical University of Moldova (UTM), along with the Gheorghe Asachi Technical University (TUIASI) from Iasi, Romania, have won a cross-border project worth two million euros, in order to create one of the most modern university networks of wireless Internet. The Internet wired network of the institutions will be fully modernized within the same project.

The cross-border project was won after two stages of assessment, within which competent people evaluated the project’s justification, the goal, fitting with the objectives of the European programme and then the feasibility study carried out by the universities was assessed. The integral name of the project is Joint Cross-Border Networking Infrastructure of Technical Universities of Iasi and Moldova - WiNet@Uni, according to the webpage www.ziaruldeiasi.ro.

The necessary technical resources will also be created through this project, so that other cross-border projects, both under implementation and the subsequent ones, could be carried out more efficiently between two beneficiary universities – TUIASI and UTM. According to the quoted source, to fulfill this goal, a modern solution will be implemented, in order to make videoconferences and thus, the inter-institutional cooperation could be accomplished.

„Once the online applications are developed, the quality access to Internet is no longer optional, a luxury. The use by people of their mobile devices – intelligent phones, laptops, tablets - has become compulsory, in order to carry out the professional and personal activities. At the moment, the infrastructure of both universities from this project is under the standard requested from European universities and through this investment, TUIASI will become one of the universities from the country with the best network of connectivity,’’ the pro-rector in charge of information and digital communication of the Iasi-based Technical University, Simona, Caraiman, said.

The partner institutions from this project have two common goals: improving the quality of activities and of education and research services, in order to achieve the high standards imposed by competition nationally and in Europe, as well as strengthening the cooperation between the partners at all levels of their academic activities.

The project is now in the period of preparation of contracting and will be implemented in the next two years.
