Chisinau, 2 December /MOLDPRES/ - Five wines of Moldova have got the Grand Gold – the highest distinction provided at Sélections Mondiales des Vins Canada – regarded as the most appreciated specialized competition in North America. Thus, Moldovan wines entered the Top 50 most appreciated wines.

Also, in late last November, the Wine of Moldova established a new record at the  Galicja Vitis international contest in Poland, where it was awarded 72 golden medals. The distinctions show the joint efforts and the close cooperation of the wine-makers brought together under the country brand Wine of Moldova and the National Office of Vine and Wine (ONVV), a promoter of quality Moldovan wines.

„Despite the period marked by major changes in the world, the work carried out by the members of the wine-making industry is appreciated internationally. The new progress registered both at the biggest competition from North America, Sélections Mondiales des Vins Canada, and at Galijca Vitis in Poland, shows the high quality of the Moldovan wines and is a sure step for consolidating the image of the country wine brand, which will certainly bring an increase in exports of quality wines. The National Office of Vine and Wine will continue backing the participation of Moldovan wine-makers in the most important specialized international contests,’’ the ONVV deputy director, Irina Bistritchi, said.

For the first time ever, 14 wineries of Moldova participated in Sélections Mondiales des Vins Canada, which this was held under the patronage of the International Organization of Vine and Wine. Moldovan wine-makers managed to distinguish themselves and in the first phase of judging, five wines got the prize Grand Gold and were included in the TOP 50 most appreciated wines, along with other wines from wine-making regions with quite known traditions.

According to the number of medals won, Moldova is among the winners after Italy (13 Grand Gold medals) and France (9 Grand Gold distinctions). Thus, Moldovan wines again managed to be classified along with wines produced in such countries as France, Italy, Spain, Chile, New Zealand, etc.

The Wine of Moldova marked a premiere in Europe as well, winning a record number of 72 golden medals, of which 3 Champion Grand Gold and 1 Champion Gold at the jubilee issue of  Galijca Vitis from Poland.
