Chisinau, 9 December /MOLDPRES/- Prime Minister Ion Chicu conveyed a message today on the International Anticorruption Day, the government's communication and protocol department has reported.

The message reads:

"Today we mark International Anticorruption Day. World governments, the private sector, non-governmental organizations, media and citizens are joining forces to combat this scourge.

The whole society supports without hesitation the fight against corruption, because this phenomenon is much more harmful than any crisis that society is going through. Crises generate opportunities and corruption erodes the rule of law and undermines democracy. When corruption favors organized crime, it actually directly affects social welfare.

Corruption means stagnating the country and discouraging investment. Corruption lacks adequate hospitals and services, we lack quality schools and education, modern roads and a prosperous life.

Currently, several anti-corruption projects are being implemented in various state institutions. There are also several actions to inform and educate young people in order to cultivate the habit of working honestly and responsibly for people and development of strong democracy.

The Moldovan government has clear commitments and is implementing anti-corruption measures. In this context, I recall the approval of some laws that provide for increase of criminal sanctions for corruption, elaboration of the implementation mechanism of the law on integrity warnings, approval of the strategy for ensuring the independence and integrity of the justice sector for 2021-2024.

Personally, I am a strong supporter of the fight against corruption and law enforcement, and I urge everyone to show intolerance towards this phenomenon. Only in this way we can ensure a functioning state, high-performing institutions and well-being for all citizens."
