Authorities says Moldova can stock 140,000 doses of anti-Covid vaccine at temperature of -70 Celsius degrees

Chisinau, 19 January /MOLDPRES/ - Moldova has a capacity of stocking 140,000 doses of anti-COVID vaccine at the National Public Health Agency (ANSP), with the possibility of extending, starting from late January 2021, with additional space of at least another 400,000 vaccine doses. The Health, Labour and Social Protection Ministry (MSMPS) has made statements to this effect, noting that the Public Health Centres from Moldova had freezers providing the temperature of -20 degrees.    

In a press release issued by the institution, the MSMPS leadership informs that, within the COVID-19 Response Mechanism, financed by the Global Fund, the purchasing of four freezers was requested: two ones with regime of temperature of -20 Celsius degrees and two units with regime of -70 degrees, which are be brought to Moldova till 31 January.   

„In the context, Moldova on 15 January 2021 submitted to COVAX a request on providing the anti-COVID-19 vaccine, produced by Pfizer/BioNTech, which needs a temperature of preservation of -70 degrees. COVAX informed that it was willing  to provide to a limited number of countries the vaccine made by Pfizer/BioNTech at a level of 0.25 per cent of the population for each country in February 2021. The health sector authorities are doing their utmost to supply the residents with safe and efficient anti-COVID-19 vaccine in as reasonable terms as possible,’’ the press release reads.    

As many as 153,112 cases of infection with COVID-19 have been recorded in Moldova so far.
