Chisinau, 22 January /MOLDPRES/ - President Maia Sandu and her adviser on health issues, Ala Nemerenco, today paid a working visit to the central Hancesti. The head of state had more meetings: with the district’s head and deputy head, 35 mayors, as well as with the management of the Hancesti District Hospital, the presidential press service has reported.

The subjects discussed regarded the economic and sanitary situation in Moldova, political developments on the last period, the visit to Brussels and the way EU can help the Moldovan settlements, as well as the need of snap elections to de-block the present political situation. ‘’We discussed the need of the assistance for farmers, including at the level of the European Union. Our farmers need support, in order to attenuate the impact of the drought and the pandemic,’’ Maia Sandu said.

The president stressed that the task of the local public administration was to serve the citizens and the political freedom and the financial independence of the local public administration represented a premise for developing the settlements, as well as her commitment in the capacity of Moldovan president. ‘’The mayors will enjoy support on behalf of me and the presidential team, in order to do good things in people’s interest. The local public authority is an important pillar of the democracy and local development. The mayor’s independence from political and financial pressures makes them strong. Namely therefore, I asked from EU the carrying out of projects locally and direct allocation of funds, in order to avoid political criteria,’’ the head of state said.

At a meeting with employees of the Hancesti District Hospital, Maia Sandu thanked the physicians for the efforts daily made to save human lives. The Moldovan president highlighted that all discussions in Brussels had regarded the as quick as possible supply of the anti-Covid-19 vaccine to Moldova and the provision of the health system with medical equipment. ‘’Till we manage to eliminate the virus and return to a normal life, it is important that we further protect the lives of the dear people and our physicians by wearing masks, keeping the distance, avoiding big rallies. The responsible behavior is the best sign of valuing physicians in these times,’’ Maia Sandu added.
