UN Food and Agriculturee Organization includes Moldova in project on strengthening food safety systems

Chisinau, 29 January /MOLDPRES/ - A new project on strengthening the official systems of food safety control and communication of risks has been launched in Moldova, as well as in Azerbaijan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Turkey, within the programme on partnership between the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO)-Turkey.    

„In the context of unsafe food, which represent major threat to the human health globally, the project financed by Turkey will organize activities at the level of country and regional events on developing capacities in the sector,’’ a FAO press release reads.   

According to FAO, the efficient systems of food products’ control cover all stages of production and processing, from the farm up to the consumer’s table; thus, the food safety is priority at each phase of the value chain – from producers, sellers to consumers.   

The project will be focused on the specific needs of each country, as well as on more joint challenges from a regional perspective, given that the systems of food safety control from these countries are in various stages of development. ‘’This even if, in the last years, the participating countries took significant measures, in order to improve the food safety control systems as part of the edification of a more sustainable food systems,’’ the communiqué also reads.  

To get the results expected, the project will facilitate the exchange of knowledge and experience between countries, which can benefit from Turkish expertise too. Also, contribution will be to the achievement of the sustainable development goals, providing support to countries in ensuring a safe food for everybody.   

In the last years, FAO has provided Moldova with support through the implementation of more projects nationally and five projects regionally, focused on the food safety, health of animals and plants, protection against drought.
