More opportunities of developing businesses to be created in southern Moldova

Chisinau, 8 February /MOLDPRES/ - Residents from southern Moldova will benefit from more opportunities of developing businesses based on information technologies. More programmes dedicated to local entrepreneurs are to be implemented in the region this year, with the launch of the project, EU4Moldova: Startup City Cahul.    

The initiatives were presented a public event, in which civic activists, representatives of the academic environment, entrepreneurs, local business people, etc. were invited to take part. The participants in the event unveiled entrepreneurial projects within EU4Moldova: Startup City Cahul, success stories and experiences, as well as opportunities of programmes, in which interested people can learn how to turn their ideas into business.     

„The support of digital transformation of the Moldovan economy is one of the priority sectors of the EU-Moldova cooperation. The project, EU4Moldova: Startup City Cahul, was conceived to stimulate innovation and creation of enterprises in the country’s southern region. This event is the beginning of a number of fascinating activities with potential to make a real difference, better preparing local enterprises for the challenges and opportunities from the digital age. Within this support and along with our partners from Sweden, EU is here to provide a tangible contribution to the improvement of the Moldovan citizens’ living,’’ EU Ambassador to Moldova Peter Michalko said.     

„This first event on technological partnership within the EU4Moldova: Startup City Cahul project is set to facilitate the cooperation between the technological talents and the business community and the most important thing, with the emerging entrepreneurs from the southern region. Along with the European Union our partners from the National Association of Companies in the Information Technologies and Communications Sector (ATIC) and people from Cahul, Sweden contributes to the balanced and inclusive economic development through innovation, entrepreneurship, employment at small- and medium-sized enterprises from Cahul,’’ Ambassador of Sweden to Moldova Anna Lyberg said.  

EU4Moldova: StartUp City Cahul is implemented by ATIC on the period 2020-2024, with the European Union’s financial assistance, in partnership with Sweden. The initiative approaches the sustainable social and economic development of the Cahul city and the neighbour settlements, which completes the regional coverage of the development assistance provided by the European Union to Moldova.
