Moldovan acting PM discusses, Ambassador of United Kingdom discuss bilateral agenda

Chisinau, 19 February /MOLDPRES/ - Acting Prime Minister Aureliu Ciocoi and Ambassador of the United Kingdom to Moldova Steven Fisher, today at the Foreign Affairs and European Integration Ministry (MAEIE), discussed the agenda of bilateral cooperation and ways of boosting the political contacts, in the context of the platform of High-Level Political and Strategic Dialogue, as a result of the signing of the Agreement on Strategic Partnership, Commerce and Cooperation between Moldova and the United Kingdom, the MAEIE press service has reported.    

The Moldovan diplomacy head highlighted the advanced character, of strategic partnership, of the bilateral relation, which is to be punctually strengthened through diversifying the economic and commercial initiatives. Concomitantly, the diplomats referred to the need to hold political consultations between the foreign affairs ministries from the two countries this year.  

Ambassador Steven Fisher informed the acting PM about the London authorities’ decision to transfer a sum of 456,068 pounds – the size of funds retained from the bank accounts owned by a citizen of Moldova, Luca Filat. The return of the aforementioned sum, under the United Nations Convention against Corruption, will be made to the relevant authorities of Moldova, for projects for the benefit of the citizens. Aureliu Ciocoi welcomed the British authorities’ decision and agreed on a discussion between the relevant institutions in charge about the exact mechanism through which these funds are to be transferred to Moldova.
