437 schools in Moldova operate online due to quarantine

Chisinau, 19 April /MOLDPRES/- On 16 April, following the decisions of the territorial commissions in public health and local specialized bodies in education, 437 (35.24%) general education institutions operate online and 359 (28.95%) schools operate with a program of physical participation of primary school pupils, as well as a contingent of 50% of the total number of graduate students, the Ministry of Education, Culture and Research (MECC) has reported.

According to the ministry, 154 (12.42%) institutions carry out the educational process with the physical presence of primary school pupils and graduate students, and 290 (23.39%) work with the physical presence of students in educational institutions.

At the same time, due to the increase in cases of COVID-19, three other schools and 79 classes in the country were placed in quarantine and remote learning.

On April 12-16, two students, three teachers and four auxiliary teachers were positively confirmed in higher education institutions, and two teachers were placed in self-isolation. In technical vocational education, 14 students, five teachers and 13 other staff were confirmed positive with the Covid-19 virus.

According to the ministry, in early education, 24 kindergartens and 69 groups of children are in quarantine. There are 21 children confirmed positive with COVID-19 virus, and another 1968 are in self-isolation. 117 teachers were positively confirmed with the new Coronavirus, 152 are in self-isolation. Of the non-teaching and auxiliary staff, 111 people were infected with the new virus, and another 189 are in self-isolation.

The Ministry of Education, Culture and Research urges school managers, teachers and pupils to continue to comply with all measures to protect against COVID-19 virus.
