Moldovan speaker meets MPs of State Duma of Russia

Chisinau, 24 April /MOLDPRES/- "We are deeply grateful to the leadership and the entire Russian people for the batch of vaccines, offered as humanitarian aid to the Republic of Moldova, in this difficult period of pandemic crisis," Speaker Zinaida Greceanii said at today's meeting with MPs of State Duma of the Russian Federation, who came to Chisinau to send the first batch of Sputnik V vaccines, the parliament's communication and public relations department has reported.

The Speaker said that the Republic of Moldova thanked for the decision of the Russian authorities to offer to the Republic of Moldova a batch of 182 thousand doses of coronavirus vaccine, as humanitarian aid. According to Zinaida Greceanii, Russia's decision was prompt and operative response to the official request addressed to Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Russian MP Viktor Seliverstov said that Moldova is the first country in the region to benefit, free of charge, from vaccines produced in the Russian Federation. According to the official, this gesture is one of supporting the people of the Republic of Moldova and reconfirming the existing good relations.

The 142 thousand doses of coronavavirus vaccine were brought by air, with a special aircraft of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia. It is the first batch of vaccine offered free of charge to our country by the Russian Federation, and another 40,000 doses will be delivered this May. At the same time, the Republic of Moldova is negotiating the purchase of new batches of Russian vaccines from budgetary funds.

The officials reviewed the political, socio-economic and pandemic situation in our country, opted for the development of interparliamentary relations between the two states and the intensification of dialogue on the existing commissions and friendship groups.

Another issue was related to the situation of Moldovan migrants in the Russian Federation and facilitation of access to the labor market and their social protection, especially now in a global pandemic.

The discussion was attended by Russian Ambassador to Moldova Oleg Vasnetsov and first secretary of the Embassy Tatiana Psariova.
