Acting PM meets Special Representative of OSCE Chairperson-in-Office

Chisinau, 24 May /MOLDPRES/- Acting Prime Minister Aureliu Ciocoi met today with the Special Representative of the Swedish OSCE Chairperson-in-Office for the Transdniestrian Settlement Process, Thomas Mayr-Harting, the government's communication and protocol department has reported.

On the agenda of the discussions were several topical issues aimed at the process of settling the Transnistrian conflict. In particular, there was talk of ensuring free movement between both banks of the Dniester and removing restrictions imposed during the pandemic, respecting fundamental human rights and security challenges in the region, continuing the dialogue and maintaining a positive dynamic within the negotiating platforms and the need to establish and prepare a new round of meetings in the 5 + 2 format.

Thomas Mayr-Harting stressed the need to move forward in the Transnistrian conflict settlement process and step up the authorities' efforts to achieve tangible results this year.

Aureliu Ciocoi said that the authorities of the Republic of Moldova are making joint efforts in order to maintain a constructive dialogue, and the Government's priority is to solve the problems faced by the inhabitants of the two banks of the Dniester.

Ciocoi noted that Moldova continues to rely on the support of external partners and the OSCE in identifying a viable solution to a lasting political settlement of the frozen conflict in the east of the country.
