Chisinau, 10 June /MOLDPRES/ - President Maia Sandu today participated in a ceremony on the delivery of a consignment of assistance worth over 200 million lei, provided to Moldova by the government of Germany, to fight against the Covid-19 pandemic. The head of state said that the medical and sanitary institutions of Moldova were presently supplied with enough protection equipment and the intensive therapy physicians have additional equipment to save lives,’’ the presidential press service has reported.
The consignment of assistance contains 100 lung ventilation devices, 900 pulse oximeters, 11 million masks and respirators, 500,000 gloves, 500,000 protection spectacles and 150,000 protection coveralls. The consignment was carried to Moldova through EU Civil Protection Mechanism, with the support of Team Europe.
„This generous consignment comes following my discussion by Mrs. Federal Chancellor Angela Merkel in last March, when I explained her the serious situation in the medical system and asked her for support to improve the situation. The assistance provided in need is an extra proof that Germany is a reliable partner and a true friend of Moldova. At the event, I conveyed the gratitude of the physicians from regions whom I met during my working visits and whose lives were actually rescued, due to the protection equipment donated. Thank you, Germany!’’ Maia Sandu said.
In the last year, Germany has provided Moldova with medical and protection equipment amounting to more than one million euros. Additionally, there was another five million euros for bilateral projects of the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ), in order to attenuate the pandemic’s economic consequences. ‘’Germany is one of the biggest financers of the COVAX initiative, through which Moldova receives sufficient quantities of vaccines for free,’’ Maia Sandu stressed.
