Moldovan parliament hosts plenary session of Black Sea Economic Cooperation Parliamentary Assembly

Chisinau, 22 June /MOLDPRES/ - Moldova’s parliament today hosted the 57th plenary session of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation Parliamentary Assembly  (BSEC PA), the chairmanship of which the country held in the first half of this year. The event took place online, with the participation of Parliament Speaker Zinaida Greceanii as BSEC PA president, the parliament’s communication and public relations department has reported.  

At the inauguration of the plenary session, Zinaida Greceanii said that Moldova’s parliament attached special importance to the process of multidimensional cooperation in the Black Sea region. ‘’BSEC PA represents a valuable platform for the carrying out of a dialogue and strengthening the efforts in turning to good account the current economic potential between the organization’s member states,’’ the parliament speaker said.   

At the same time, according to the speaker, this regional institution represents a fundamental forum for exchanging opinions and visions on more issues of common interest. ‘’I would like to voice hope that this meeting and the exchange of opinions will allow our countries to find new ways and solutions to the problems we are facing every day,’’ Zinaida Greceanii stressed.

The official appreciated the organization’s work on the period January-June this year. According to the parliament speaker, there was an extended programme of online activities on this period, which included meetings of specialized committees, videoconferences, etc. In the context, Zinaida Greceanii thanked the BSEC PAS International Secretariat, members of the Assembly’s Bureau, standing committee, partners and observers for openness and cooperation.   

Foreign Affairs minister of Albania Olta Xhacka, President of the Chamber of Deputies from Romania Ludovic Orban, BSEC PA Secretary General Asaf Hajiyev and other officials gave speeches at the ceremony of opening of the plenary session.  

The session’s agenda included the Parliamentary Assembly’s activity report, subjects on the economic, commercial, education activity, as well as the accession of North Macedonia to the BSEC PA General Assembly. This country will be the 13th member of the Assembly as of 1 January 2022.  

At the plenary session, Speaker Zinaida Greceanii transmitted to Romania’s parliament the chairmanship of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation Parliamentary Assembly, according to the rotation principle.  

For his part, President of Romania’s Chamber of Deputies Ludovic Orban informed about the awarding of the BSEC PA Medal of Honour to Parliament Speaker Zinaida Greceanii, as a token of gratitude for the full support of the BSEC PA’s activities.
