Moldovan soldiers deployed in Kosovo awarded by KFOR peacekeeping mission

Chisinau, 30 June /MOLDPRES/- Moldovan soldiers deployed in Kosovo have been awarded the medal - For Peacekeeping Mission in the Balkans as recognition of commitment to KFOR mission.

The Ministry of Defense announced today that the Moldovan and Italian soldiers were decorated by the Western Regional Command of KFOR International Peacekeeping Mission.

According to the commander of the KFOR-14 contingent of the National Army, Lieutenant-Colonel Anton Anghelcev, the medals were handed by Colonel Francesco Maioriello, who voiced appreciation for the professionalism with which the Moldovan and Italian soldiers performed their missions during the six months.

For his part, Lieutenant-Colonel Anton Anghelcev handed out distinctions of the National Army to the representatives of the command corps of the Western Regional Command and the multinational company PAPA-COY.

Acting Minister of Defense Victor Gaiciuc said that the main actions of the Moldovan peacekeeping contingent deployed in Kosovo are related to demining operations and guarding public and military objectives, including guarding the Dečani Monastery.

The official said that the mandate of the KFOR-14 contingent of the National Army will end in mid-July.

The KFOR mission ensures a safe environment and freedom of movement for all ethnic communities in Kosovo, in accordance with a 1999 UN Security Council resolution.
