Chisinau, 7 July /MOLDPRES/- A new phytosanitary and sanitary-veterinary checkpoint will operate at the western border of the country. The construction works of the inspection point at the Sculeni border are in the final phase, being carried out with the financial support of the Competitive Agriculture in Moldova Project (MAC-P), financed by the World Bank.

According to project manager Liviu Gumovschi, the border inspection point will be equipped with high-performance machinery for taking, storing and transporting samples of imported products, thus ensuring non-admission of non-compliant production in the country and protection of health of consumers, animals and native plants of pathogens.

The construction of border inspection posts is an important step in advancing the Republic of Moldova in carrying out the actions provided for in the Association Agreement between the Republic of Moldova and the European Union, namely Chapter 4 -Sanitary and Phytosanitary Measures.

"According to it, the parties have committed themselves to cooperating on the gradual approach and capacity development, including by further improving the infrastructure and related capacity needed to implement the legislation on animal health, plant health, safety laboratories of food and border control posts in accordance with EU requirements ", said Ion Perju, Acting Minister of Agriculture, Regional Development and Environment.

Within the MAC – P Competitive Agriculture Project, similar posts were built at the Leușeni, Criva, Tudora and Giurgiulești border crossing points.
