All 150 polling stations in diaspora ready for 11 July elections

Chisinau, 9 July /MOLDPRES/- All 150 polling stations in diaspora have been set up and equipped, have got ballots and are ready to receive voters. Acting Prime Minister Aureliu Ciocoi made the statement at a today's joint conference with Central Electoral Commission head Dorin Cimil.

The premier said that the executive is obliged to cover the CEC's expenses. "I guarantee that the CEC will receive the amount requested for elections," Ciocoi said.

He noted that the state is fully prepared for Sunday's election. All 150 polling stations in the diaspora have been set up, equipped, received ballot papers and are ready to receive voters.

"A working group has been set up at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration to deal with the organization of processes in foreign departments and will support election officials. On Sunday, this group will be active 24 hours a day ", said Ciocoi.

He added that the agreements of all the countries where polling stations will be opened have been requested and received. “I urge the members of the diaspora to check in advance the addresses of the nearest polling stations, but also the documents necessary for voting. Cases were reported when erroneous addresses were distributed, check the page of the ministry and embassies ", added Ciocoi.

Dorin Cimil said that when organizing this election, the institution he leads faced several challenges due to the pandemic situation, the financial aspect and some gaps in the legislation. "The CEC constituted all the lower electoral bodies and printed over 700 thousand ballots for those who will vote outside the country, who have already reached their destination. A mobile ballot box cannot be requested abroad, even in the case of COVID patients. However, Moldovans who have specific symptoms will be led by the electoral employees, to the polls, in separate ways ", said Cimil.

726,700 ballots were distributed in the 150 polling stations abroad, of which 662,600 in Romanian and 64,100 in Russian.
