Moldova won medal at Olympics in Tokyo

Chisinau, 9 August /MOLDPRES/- Only one Moldovan athlete climbed the award podium at the Olympic Games in Tokyo. Canoeist Sergei Tarnovschi won the bronze medal in the one-thousand-meter kayak-canoe event.

The Republic of Moldova is among the 93 states that won medals at this year's Summer Olympics. A total of 11,090 athletes from 205 countries competed. The delegation of the United States of America took the first place in the final ranking on medals, and Moldova finished on the 86th place.

Out of the 20 Moldovan athletes who participated in the Olympic Games, only canoeist Serghei Tarnovschi climbed the award podium.

The National Olympic and Sports Committee presented the list and the result of the Moldovan athletes participating in the Olympics in Japan.


The National Lottery announced it will award Moldovan performers. The bronze medalist, the canoeist Serghei Tarnovschi will receive 250,000 lei, and those ranked 4-10 - 50,000 lei each.

The Tokyo Olympics took place on 23 July - 8 August.
