Chisinau, 13 August /MOLDPRES/- Parliament has approved the decision to set up a special commission to select candidates for Ombudsman.

The Commission will be composed of members of the Commission on Human Rights and Interethnic Relations - Grigore Novac, Ana Racu, Natalia Davidovici, Liliana Grosu, Angela Munteanu-Pojoga, Victor Spinu, Nicolai Rusol and the Committee on rules and immunities - Olesea Stamate, Veronica Roșca, Vasile Bolea, Igor Chiriac, Artemie Cătănoi, Vasile Grădinaru, Sergiu Litvinenco, Igor Talmazan, Ala Dolință, Alexandr Suhodolski, Denis Ulanov.

The Special Commission will adopt the Regulation on the organization and conduct of the public competition for the selection of candidates for Ombudsman, which will be published on the official website of the Parliament.

The Commission will also examine the files of candidates for the position of Ombudsman. It will present the candidacies to parliament within 60 days.

On February 4, 2021, the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova adopted the Decision on the termination of the mandate of Ombudsman prematurely and declared vacant this position, following the death of Mihail Cotorobai.

The need for the adoption of the new decision lies in the fact that the snap parliamentary elections took place on 11 July 2021 and, as a result, the composition of the deputies and the permanent legislative commissions of the members of the Special Commission for selection of candidates for ombudsman changed.
