Premier says Moldova speaks out for strengthening cooperation in transports sector

Chisinau, 28 September /MOLDPRES/ - Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilita, on a working visit to Brussels, today had a meeting with European Commissioner for Transport Adina Valean, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.    

The main subjects of discussion represented the importance of the transport as element of connection EU-Moldova, as well as potential of economic development for business people from Moldova.  

The prime minister stressed that the current government was focusing its efforts on the working out of the national document of policies in the transport sector – the mobility programme. The new document will show the basic principles of the EU Sustainable and Smart Mobility Strategy – the de-carbonization and digitalization in transports.   

„We are ready to work closely with EU in the field of the green, efficient and safe transport. We speak out for a more ambitious format of cooperation, both bilaterally and regionally, which is to meet our needs and complete the national efforts,’’ Natalia Gavrilita said.

An important subject was the turning to account of 230 million euros for the infrastructure and connectivity from the Plan on Economic Recovery for Moldova and 780 million euros for initiatives in the transport sector, as part of the investment plan of the Eastern Partnership.  

„A good news was that the National Recovery and Resilience Plan of Romania was accepted and among the projects financed, there is also the construction of the highway segment Targu-Mures-Ungheni, which will help connect Moldova to Romania, thus giving Moldova direct access to the European transport network,’’ Commissioner Valean said.   

In the context, Adina Valean also said that the European Union was willing to boost the financial support for the projects on the development of transport and connectivity, as well as technical assistance for the Civil Aviation Authority.   

The sides also tackled issues on the air safety, as well as in the sea field, including the improvement of the security and safety standards in these sectors, in accordance with the European acquis and the international norms.
