Moldovan cabinet to sign agreement with USA for turning to account over 70 million dollars

Chisinau, 30 September /MOLDPRES/ - The cabinet of ministers, at a today’s meeting, approved a draft government decision on the starting of negotiations and approval of the signing of the agreement on the re-enforcement of the agreements on assistance as to the development goals from 2016 between the governments of Moldova and the United States.  

According to the government’s communication and protocol department, the goal of this agreement is to reestablish the legal effects of two assistance agreements signed between the governments of Moldova and the USA in 2016, which expired in May-June 2021, as well as to extend of their term till 31 December 2025.

Thus, the overall sum of the grant allocated within the assistance agreement as to the goal of development for increasing the trade and investments in the key sectors amounts to 90.6 million dollars; at present, 27.6 million dollars has not been turned to account and for the agreement on the development goal for a more efficient and responsible democratic governance – 76.9 million dollars, of which about 45 million dollars has not been turned to account.

The agreement will enter into force on the date of its signing. Finance Minister Dumitru Budianschi will sign the document on behalf of Moldova’s government and Director of the Mission of the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) Scott D. Hocklander – on behalf of the United States.
