EU disburses 50 million euros to Moldova as macro-financial assistance

Chisinau, 8 October /MOLDPRES/ - The European Commission, on behalf of the European Union, has disbursed 50 million euros to Moldova as macro-financial assistance (AMF). This disbursement is part of the package of macro-financial assistance worth 3 billion euros for ten partners regarded by the enlargement and neighbourhood policy, the goal of which is to respond to the economic consequences triggered by the COVID-19 pandemic.    

The AMF assistance is provided as loan on easy terms, representing a concrete manifestation of EU’s solidarity with its partners.

”I am happy that the European Union disbursed additionally 50 million euros as financial support provided to Moldova. This is a concrete proof of the commitment taken by EU to help Moldova cope with the economic and social impact triggered by the COVID-19 pandemic. These means, allocated following the fulfillment of the commitments of policies agreed upon, confirm the progress made by Moldova in implementing the measures necessary to secure a more stable and prosperous future,’’ European Commissioner for Economy Paolo Gentiloni said.  

The disbursement of the first installment of 50 million euros to Moldova within the AMF programme took place in November 20220. ‘’Moldova made a remarkable progress, managing to fulfill the conditions related to the policies agreed upon with the European Union for the disbursement of the second installment worth 50 million euros, within the current AMF COVID-19 Programme.  These conditions included important measures meant to improve the management of public money in the health sector, measures of consolidating the good governance and the rule of law state, as well as measures of improving the business environment,’’ reads a press release by the EU Delegation in Chisinau.   

The European Commission informs that it will continue closely cooperating with the other AMF partners, for the implementation of the programmes of policies agreed upon in due time.
