Chisinau, 8 October /MOLDPRES/ - A scientific conference dedicated to the centenary of the Mihai Eminescu National Theatre took place at Moldova’s  Academy of Sciences (ASM).

In the beginning of the event, ASM president Ion Tighineanu highlighted, inter alia, that 100 year ago the National Theatre had been founded on 6 October 2021. More personalities of the Romanian culture and culture institutions from the inter-war Bessarabia brought their contribution to its opening.

”This stage from Chisinau was the only platform of disseminating the Romanian culture and spirituality and of cultivation of the Romanian language, through the staging of works by classical writers of the universal literature, as well as of contemporary writers. The institution remains like this at present as well – a pillar of the cultural identity. Moldova’s Academy of Sciences is indissolubly connected with the work of the National Theatre and the famous people of the theatrical art. We are honoured by this emblematic connection, as the inaugural act of the opening of Moldova’s Academy of Sciences took place on 2 August 1961 at the Aleksandr Pushkin Academic Theatre (presently Mihai Eminescu National Theatre). The first General Assembly of the of the Academy took place namely in the hall of the today theatre, during which the government decision on the foundation of Moldova’s Academy of Sciences was taken, the institution’s statute and leadership bodies were approved, the titular and corresponding members of the academy were nominated. At the same time, a festive concert dedicated to ASM’s foundation took place here,’’ the president of the Academy said.

At the event, Ion Tighineanu awarded the high distinction of ASM, the Academic Merit diploma, to the Mihai Eminescu National Theatre (TNME) for significant contribution to the promotion of the cultural values nationally and internationally, as well as on the occasion of the jubilee of 100 years of the theatre’s foundation. At the same time, the ASM’s Academic Merit diploma was awarded, on this occasion, to more personalities of the theatre. TNME director Petru Hadarca and actor Vitalie Rusu were awarded the ASM medal Nicolae Milescu Spataru.
