Chisinau, 11 November /MOLDPRES/- Forty institutions in the country, including the presidency, parliament, ministries, state agencies, all subdivisions of the Ministry of Environment, including the territorial ones will respond this Saturday to the national call to participate in the greening campaign. Relevant Minister Iuliana Cantaragiu made the statement today.

According to the official, so far more than three hundred local public authorities have confirmed their participation in the campaign. "These are localities from all over the country. There are 86 territorial-administrative units in the north of the country, 211 in the center and 52 in the southern region. At the same time, we urge all interested parties to participate in the creation of green spaces in the country, or they can find out when and where tree plantations are organized in their locality, accessing the website of the Ministry of Environment - www.mediu.gov.md , where there will be an online information center dedicated to this campaign ", said Cantaragiu.

The Minister of Environment reminded that the action, which will be launched on November 13 in the Republic of Moldova, aims to strengthen efforts to mobilize the entire country. "In the coming weeks, we plan to plant over five million seedlings to support the natural regeneration of almost 580 hectares and complete several thousand hectares of recent plantations," said Iuliana Cantaragiu.

Representative of the Moldsilva Agency said “traditionally, during this period, forest crops will be created in the forest fund and works will be carried out to help the natural regeneration on an area of 347 hectares. Thirty tons of acorns will be planted in the soil, and the completion of forestry works, created in previous years, will cover an area of 3.4 thousand ha, using about 2.5 million seedlings.

The Territorial Inspectorates for Environmental Protection also communicated with the local public authorities of level I and II and identified the areas subject to afforestation, the name of the species and the number of trees and shrubs. The most requested species are fir, spruce, juniper, oak, birch, lime, walnut, maple, ash, acacia and willow.

According to the Ministry of Environment, currently the afforestation rate of the Republic of Moldova is just over 11% of the territory. However, studies show that forests must cover at least 25% of the country's territory, for a balanced environment, with better air and soil quality, a sufficient amount of water and healthy biodiversity. Ecological reconstruction and expansion of the national forest fund are needed.

In the context of concerns about global warming and the latest commitments made internationally by our country, by 2030 it is necessary to restore forests and expand to an area of at least one hundred thousand hectares. Conservation and planting of forest massifs is one of the priorities of the Ministry of Environment and is an objective of the government program.
