Moldovan parliament hosts fifth issue of Young People's Parliament

Chisinau, 15 November /MOLDPRES/ - Over 50 young people participants in the fifth issue of the project, Young People’s Parliament, have simulated the legislative process in the hall of the plenary meetings. Attending the inauguration was also Deputy Parliament Speaker Mihail Popsoi, the parliament’s communication and public relations general department has reported.   

Mihail Popsoi highlighted the involvement proved by young people within this project. The MP urged them to show, in continuation, interest in the legislative process. ‘’The future belongs to young people. We try to give a helping hand, to be open and give young people opportunity to implement the abilities they get in such projects,’’ the deputy parliament speaker said.  

Within the Young People’s Parliament project, the participants simulated the parliament’s foundation meeting. Young people elected the parliament speaker and the deputy speakers, set up the factions and approved draft laws. Among them, there are the legislative initiatives which regard the protection of the archaeological heritage, subsidizing the sector of processing solid waste or the status of pupils’ councils.    

The Young People’s Parliament is a project meant for young people with ages between 16 and 28 years and represents a simulation of the decision-making process in Moldova’s parliament. Its goal is to give young people practical visions about the role and work of the legislative body in the state.  

The project is implemented by the INVENTO Public Association, with the financial support of Germany’s Federal Foreign Affairs Ministry, Hanns Seidel Foundation in Moldova, in partnership with ELSA Moldova, according to the model of the Young People’s Parliament from Romania, implemented by the Pro Democracy Association. The parliament hosted three editions of the Young People’s Parliament.
