Over 60 percent of ANSP sequencing samples showed Omicron strain

Chisinau, Feb. 8 / MOLDPRES /- In the Republic of Moldova, 16 new cases of COVID-19 with the Omicron variant were confirmed. The share of Omicron samples in the calculated sample is about 63% of the total. The statement was made by ANSP director Nicolae Jelamschi.
276 sequencing samples were recently taken, some of which arrived at the laboratory and were examined. The procedure confirmed 16 cases of Omicron. The share of Omicron samples is around 63%.
The samples were pre-selected between January 17-27, and out of the 16 cases confirmed with Omicron, 6 are men and 10 are women, of which 5 are from Chisinau. 14 people were hospitalized and two are being treated at home.
The head of ANSP urged the population to get vaccinated and follow the prevention measures, and did not rule out that the number of infections could increase after the students returned to classes with physical presence.
