Chisinau, 10 February /MOLDPRES/ - The message by Deputy Prime Minister, Foreign Affairs and European Integration Minister Nicu Popescu, in the context of the joint meeting of the governments of Moldova and Romania:

The diplomacy of concrete deeds is aimed at promoting the beneficial initiatives for the interest of the country and of our citizens.

A good deal of the initiatives with impact for the people from both banks of the Prut river, which are to be signed at the joint meeting of the governments on 11 February, were launched on 2 July 2019, during the first visit abroad by the then prime minister, Maia Sandu, and the working groups in which we participated along with the ministers of the cabinet and our Romanian counterparts.

The years 2019 and 2021-2022 meant for our relation with Romania not only a stage of quite intense work, but also of spiritual achievements and confirmations for both sides and, on this occasion, I would like to thank Ministers Teodor Melescanu, Ramona Manescu and Bogdan Aurescu, my counterparts from Bucharest, with whom I have cooperated remarkably during these periods.

The roadmap on the priority sectors of cooperation Romania – Moldova, signed in Bucharest in November 2021 with Minister Bogdan Aurescu, in the presence of Presidents Maia Sandu and Klaus Iohannis, is a comprehensive document, meant to speed up concretely the process of Moldova’s European integration, ensuring economic and social development for the direct benefit of all citizens.

The fifth joint meeting of the governments of Moldova and Romania is a historical moment in the anniversary year, when we mark 30 years of the establishment of the Moldovan-Romanian diplomatic relations. Just as the first Flowers’ Bridges facilitated our rediscovery, just as the education scholarships got us closer culturally and educationally, just as the exchanges of medical employees during the pandemic period united us through emotion and dedication, in the same way, the non-refundable financial assistance worth 100 million euros, the more accessible prices for the mobile international roaming services, construction, exploitation and maintenance of the border road bridge across the Prut river will get us closer to each other even.

Our strategic partnership for European integration with Romania must consolidate the community of history, language and culture, in order to accelerate the construction of a joint infrastructure, characterized by bridges, energy interconnection, interconnection in the communications sector and a deep institutional dialogue, as only in this way and through the perspective of our bilateral relations with Romania, we can anchor Moldova to the European area firmly and irreversibly.

I thank the diplomacy of Moldova and Romania, colleagues from both cabinets, hundreds of civil servants who work day and night, in team spirit, for the success of the fifth joint meeting of the governments of Moldova and Romania!

The future is waiting for us with ambitious plans aimed at what we have promised to the citizens of our country: European modernization of Moldova.
