Chisinau, 14 February /MOLDPRES/ - The governor (bashkan) of the Autonomous Territorial Unit (UTA) Gagauz-Yeri, Irina Vlah, has thanked the government of Romania for the ‘’essential support for the construction of the new education building for the Mihai Eminescu theoretical lyceum from Comrat’’ and asked for support for the completion of these works.

„This is a lyceum where subjects are taught in Romanian and we face an acute problem – we have a lot of children who want to study in Romanian, but we have no enough places and we use even corridors. While only 13 children were studying at this lyceum in the first form in 2014, in 2021 we have 75 children. This is the result of our effort to persuade people to learn the state’s official language. We persuaded the people that the knowledge of language is a great advantage in the modern world and widens the spectrum of opportunities,’’ Irina Vlah said at the joint meeting of the Moldovan and Romanian governments.

According to the bashkan, the calculations of the project’s cost were made in 2019, till the pandemic. Or the cost of the building materials and the works increased on the next period. Volumes of works overlooked at the stage of the initial tender have been additionally identified.

„Thus, we face the situation when we have an insufficiency of 4.4 million lei for finishing the construction of the education building. The economic crisis through which we go now does not allow us allocating resources from our budget,’’ Vlad Noted.

In the context, the bashkan asked the prime minister of Romania to consider ‘’possibility to help us finish the construction of the education building and transmit it to children starting from 1 September this year. This will be a nice present for those due to represent Moldova’s future,’’ Irina Vlah said.

Also, the governor of the Gagauz autonomy invited the team of the Romanian government to visit UTA Gagauzia. ‘’We want to better know each other, for you to make sure that we are good-will and gifted people. We want to learn a lot from you – to attract investments in the economy’s industrialization and development of the IT sector, to work out projects and attract European funds, to edify a sustainable democracy and many other nice things,’’ bashkan Irina Vlad added.
