Chisinau, 14 Feb. / MOLDPRES /- Laboratory in which, for the first time, the PCR testing process is being carried out for the diagnosis of the SARS-CoV-2 virus was inaugurated today in the Laboratory Diagnostic Section of the Public Health Center (CSP) Causeni. The laboratory offers testing services to residents of three districts - Causeni, Anenii Noi and Stefan Voda.

"The COVID-19 pandemic has come with huge challenges for the health system and for society as a whole, but especially for the public health sector. During this time, we became convinced that testing ability was critical. In this context, the expansion of testing capacities in the regions is welcome and necessary, being the result of the effort made by the authorities, together with the development partners, without which it was not possible to materialize. In addition to the equipment, we also make a special effort to strengthen human capabilities. Due to the training received by colleagues, the testing will be performed in accordance with international standards ", Secretary of State of the Ministry of Health Svetlana Nicolaescu said.

The extension of the diagnostic capacities, at district level, through molecular biology techniques, for the determination of the SARS-CoV-2 virus was carried out with the support of the National Agency for Public Health (ANSP) and the Causeni District Council, which carried out the repair and arrangement works.

With the support of development partners - the World Health Organization (WHO), the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), the European Union and the World Bank - the laboratory in Causeni has been equipped with high-performance equipment, including refrigerators, distiller and autoclave.

ANSP head Nicolae Jelamschi thanked the international partners for support, and emphasized once again the importance of expanding and strengthening laboratory diagnostic capabilities at the local level, training laboratory specialists and increasing the accessibility of the population to diagnostic services.

Miljana Grbic, WHO Representative in the Republic of Moldova stressed the importance of providing the population in the south-eastern region of the country with quality, safe and efficient laboratory services in diagnosing COVID-19 infection.

In total, there are seven ANSP laboratories in the country that carry out the PCR testing process to diagnose the SARS-CoV-2 virus.
