Chisinau, 9 March /MOLDPRES/ - The government, at a today’s meeting, approved the law on the foundation of the Lower Dniester National Park. The protected area stretches on an area of 62,000 hectares, within the territorial borders of 13 settlements placed in the Stefan Voda and Causeni districts and three settlements placed on the left bank of Dniester, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.

The National Park has the goal to protect the biological diversity, to ensure the maintenance, preservation and rational use of the natural resources. At the same time, the creation of this protected natural area will ensure the preservation of the natural complexes of major importance and will represent an additional impetus to the development of settlements and attracting tourists.

The Lower Dniester National Park will be structured on zones with distinct legal regime: from strictly protected level up to the carrying out of economic activities which do not run counter the regime of the national park.

In Moldova, there are more protected state natural parks and reserves, such as the Orhei National Park, the scientific reserves, the Pădurea Domnească (Princely Forest), Codrii (Forests), Iagorlic, Lower Prut, Plaiul Fagului.
