Children born on territory of Moldova to be able to get citizenship

Chisinau, 15 June /MOLDPRES/ - Each child born in Moldova will be able to get the state’s citizenship, even if none of his/her parents has right to stay in Moldova. The members of the parliament’s commission for social protection, health and family, today approved a draft law to this effect.

The amendment proposes is meant to comply the legal norm with the provisions of the United Nations Convention Relating to the Status of Stateless Persons, UN Convention on the Reduction of Statelessness and the Convention on the Rights of the Child.

”The normative proposal will guarantee the right of any child born on the territory of Moldova to the citizenship of our state and will prevent the situations of statelessness of children born to parents with expired acts on stay or visas or to parents without acts on stay, who are in transit. The draft will not regard a large number of children; yet, as long as the right of even on child is infringed in Moldova, we are obliged to take attitude,’’ the initiative’s author, MP Angela-Munteanu Pojoga stressed.
