Lithuania to continue providing Moldova with expertise needed in advancement on European integration way

Chisinau, 11 July /MOLDPRES/ - Moldova’s agenda of reforms, after the giving of the status of country candidate for accession to the European Union, and the security challenges faced by the country have been the main subjects discussed by Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu with a delegation of Lithuanian MPs members of the Committee on Foreign Affairs, the parliament’s communication and public relations department has reported.  

The speaker emphasized the authorities’ firm determination to remain consistent, more than ever now, to the agenda of reforms, paying special attention to the strengthening of the capacities of the state institutions, fight against corruption and recovery of the assets stolen, evaluation of the judges and prosecutors, combating the Russian propaganda. ‘’Moldova does not treat as an exemption the fact that the status of country candidate to EU was given. This fact prompts us to be even more consistent in the implementation of reforms, which are necessary, first of all, for us and we will not overleap any phase. Lithuania’s experience in the process of accession to EU and of approximating the legislation is of great value for us,’’ the parliament speaker said.       

In the context, the parliament speaker thanked Lithuania for the support provided to Moldova during time both to get the status of country candidate for accession to EU and for the implementation of reforms, in the management of the pandemic crisis and of the refugees’ one. ‘’We have always felt and seen the support of Lithuania provided to our country. We are happy with Moldova’s maintenance on the list of priority states for assistance for development on behalf of Lithuania and continuous providing of assistance in the reforms’ implementation,’’ the parliament speaker said.  

For their part, the Lithuanian lawmakers informed that Moldova would continue providing support to Moldova and the expertise needed in the advancement on the European integration way.  

Other subjects discussed at the meeting regarded aspects concerning the ensuring of Moldova’s energy security, economic and security challenges faced by the country, the situation in the Transnistrian region and the one in the Autonomous Territorial Unit of Gagauzia.    

The members of the delegation of the Lithuanian Seimas’ Committee on Foreign Affairs pay a visit to Moldova on 10-12 July, at an invitation by the head of the parliamentary commission for foreign policy and European integration, Doina Gherman. The 30th anniversary of the establishment of the Moldovan-Lithuanian diplomatic relations is marked this year.
