Chisinau, 29 July /MOLDPRES/ - Farmers from Moldova will benefit from last generation agricultural technology. Forty eight tractors made in Japan, meant for the use on multiannual plantations, today were delivered within an agreement on loan between Moldova and the Japanese International Cooperation Agency (JIKA), the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.

Attending the event, Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilita thanked the government of Japan for the preferential loan worth 18.7 million dollars, provided within the Modernization of agricultural technology and equipment project. The financial resources will be used to improve the productivity and farmers will be able to access money to benefit from agricultural technology and equipment at a lower price, with possibility to pay in installments and without pawn. Most tractors have been already contracted by Moldovan entrepreneurs and are to be delivered to beneficiaries in the next weeks.

„On this difficult period, during which our country found itself in more crises simultaneously, including the drought period, the agro-food sector remains a priority for the government in continuation. Along with the Agriculture Ministry and other actors involved in the sector, we will give possibility to our farmers to be able to purchase agricultural technology at preferential prices,’’ Natalia Gavrilita said.

The PM also said that the cabinet would focus, in continuation, its efforts on enhancing the degree of endowing the agro-food sector with technology, a process which will contribute to the diminution of the production costs and ensuring residents’ access to cheap and qualitative products.

„In the last months, I have had meetings with farmers, I identified their and needs and came up with a package of measures to back them. We ruled to reimburse 100 per cent the excise duty on diesel. Now, it is important that we ensure the adjusting of the native farming production to the global market’s requirements and in this context, investments for modernizing this sector are badly necessary,’’ the prime minister said.

Seventy two tractors will be bought with the loan provided by JIKA in all. Another 24 tractors are to be delivered till early August. The preferential loan was provided for a period of 40 years, with an interest rate of 0.1 per cent and a grace period of 12 years.
