Moldovan soldiers to participate in peacekeeping mission in Lebanon on 15 August

Chisinau, 9 Aug. /MOLDPRES/- Starting from 15 August, the Moldovan soldiers  will participate in the peacekeeping mission in the Republic of Lebanon - the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL). Minister of Defense Anatolie Nosatîi made the statement in a report presented one year after assuming the mandate.

Last year efforts were made to intensify the participation of the Republic of Moldova in peacekeeping and humanitarian missions, thus increasing the state's credibility as a security provider.

"From August 15 the Moldovan soldiers will participate in the peacekeeping mission in the Republic of Lebanon - the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL). At the same time, we are negotiating with the European Union regarding the participation of our peacekeepers in the mission in Bosnia and Herzegovina. In the same way, the National Army is ready to deploy a contingent of snipers for post-conflict demining missions in Ukraine," he said.

He noted among the achievements the relaunch of bilateral cooperation with the defense institutions of the neighboring states and the EU member states and the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. "As a result of these cooperations, through the European Peace Facility, in 2021, seven million euros were allocated to the Ministry of Defense for the provision of demining teams, a mobile medical detachment, as well as three medical points from the military units of the National Army. In the same context, for 2022, 40 million euros were approved for the implementation of projects related to the procurement of logistics equipment, military vehicles, communications equipment, cyber defense, radio stations", the official said.

He said that the reorganization process of the National Army will continue and work is also being done on the social dimension and the modernization of the infrastructure of the military units.
