Chisinau, 22 Sep. /MOLDPRES/- President Maia Sandu thanked international partners, including the United Nations for the assistance in managing the humanitarian crisis that arose after the outbreak of the war in Ukraine. The official made the statement at the general debate of the 77th session of the UN General Assembly.

The head of state thanked the Secretary General of the UN and other high officials who visited our country as a sign of support and solidarity. "I convey my deep gratitude to France, Germany, Romania and other partners for the creation of the Support Platform for Moldova, a platform that stands by our country in these difficult times. As a country of less than three million people, we have provided shelter to more than half a million refugees fleeing war. At the peak of the influx, the population of our country increased by four percent," said Maia Sandu.

Maia Sandu said that about 80 thousand refugees chose to stay in the Republic of Moldova. "I use this opportunity to pay tribute from this high platform to all Moldovan families who have shown unprecedented solidarity with refugees and opened their homes and hearts to those in need. I am proud of our people", said Maia Sandu.

Maia Sandu participated in the opening of the United Nations General Assembly. For two days, the official met with our country's partners from all over the world to discuss how we respond in solidarity to the economic and security challenges faced by the planet, how we ensure peace, democracy and freedom for all.
