Chisinau, 4 November /MOLDPRES/ - The Interior Ministry’s (MAI) Migration and Asylum Bureau today received a donation made up of two mini-buses and 21 readers of identity acts.

According to Interior Minister Ana Revenco, the donation will improve the capacity of processing and verification of the authenticity of the documents of foreign documents all over Moldova.

„Moldova faces more crises. The donation is meant to support the Interior Ministry’s efforts to manage the crisis triggered by the flow of refugees from Ukraine. The MAI subdivisions’ employees are in the first line and, to cope with the challenges, we should make joint front with the foreign partners. The donation received today will surely contribute to the optimization of the Migration and Asylum Bureau’s services,’’ Ana Revenco said.

For his part, Head of the EU Delegation in Moldova Janis Mazeiks said the mini-buses and the passport readers would help MAI and the Migration and Asylum Bureau provide essential services to the refugees who enter Moldova.

„This donation is part of a vaster regional programme, financed by the European Union, in order to back the flow of refugees. The EU’s response to Russia’s aggression against Ukraine was opportune and quick. EU allocated 15 million euros for this programme, so that the voluntary transfer of people, safely and with dignity, is possible,’’ Janis Mazeiks noted.

The equipment and the vehicles, worth 125,000 euros in all, as well as the operational expertise for the Migration and Asylum Bureau were financially backed by the European Union.
