Price of health insurance policy to increase in Moldova in 2023

Chisinau, 12 December /MOLDPRES/ - The draft law on the mandatory health insurance accounts (FAOAM) for 2023 was voted by the parliament in the first reading today.   

The document sees both revenues and expenses worth 14.1 billion lei, with the revenues and expenses forecast to grow by 15.1 per cent.  

Under the draft, the mandatory health insurance premium in percentage sum from the salary and other rewards will not be changed in 2023 and will be 9 per cent. The citizens who should be insured independently will be able to buy the mandatory health insurance against 12,600 lei – the size which comes from the nominal average salary on the country forecast for 2023 in an amount of 11,700 lei.     

Health Minister Ala Nemerenco, who unveiled the draft in the parliament’s plenum, reiterated that the facilities and cuts for those who will buy the mandatory health insurance premium on the period 1 January – 31 March would remained in force in 2023 too. The premium will be able to be bought for 4,056 lei.    

The prevailing part of FAOAM, about 13.9 billion lei, is to be accumulated in the fund for the payment of the medical and pharmaceutical services. This figure is worth over 1.8 billion lei or by 15.1 per cent more against the one approved for 2022.   

Also, the draft law on the FAOAM for 2023 provides for the covering of the expenses for the increase, as of 1 October 2022, of the salaries of the staff from the public medical and sanitary institutions involved in the mandatory health insurances system, the indexation of the expenses of the medical and sanitary institutions for medicines and of the overheads at the consumer price index forecast for the 2023 year.
