Chisinau, 23 December /MOLDPRES/ - Foreign Affairs and European Integration Minister Nicu Popescu, along with the state secretary, Vladimir Cuc, have chaired the 45th council of foreign affairs ministers of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation Organization (BSEC), the Foreign Affairs and European Integration Ministry’s (MAEIE) press service has reported.

„At the ministerial meeting, I said that Moldova, in its capacity of state founder of BSEC, within the chairmanship-in-office, pursued the goal to promote the cooperation in the fields related to the sustainable economic development of the region.

We firmly believe that the observance of the principle of international law, such as the sovereignty, territorial integrity and inviolability of borders, represents the key element in ensuring relations of confidence between states,’’ the Moldovan official said.

The aggression war started by Russia against Ukraine significantly hit the functionality of the Organization and the joint efforts to promote the prosperity and economic growth in the region.

At the ministerial meeting, most BSEC member states expressed thanks to Moldova for the management of the Organization on this complicated period. The participants in the event exchanged opinions on the situation in the region and the priorities on the organization’s agenda.

They also approved the Organization’s budget for 2023 and decisions necessary for the work of this regional structure.

„We conveyed our wishes of success to our colleagues from Serbia, who will exercise the BSEC’s chairmanship-in-office in the first half of the 2023 year,’’ Minister Nicu Popescu said at the videoconference.
