Chisinau, 11 January /MOLDPRES/ - President Maia Sandu today summoned the National Commission for European Integration (CNIE). The Commission members assessed the way decision-makers carry out the action plan for the implementation of those nine recommendations made by the European Commission when Moldova was given the status of country candidate for accession to EU. At the same time, under a decree by the Moldovan president, new CNIE members were appointed – ministers, MPs, representatives of law-enforcement bodies and civil society, the presidential press service has reported.

The Commission members were informed about the fact that 16 out of those 35 actions, which were to be implemented, were carried out and nine ones were at the final phase. Among the actions carried out, there is the adoption by the parliament of the new Electoral Code, which entered into force on 1 January 2023. Also, the government adopted the regulation on the low-value public procurements.

Among the actions which are in the finalization stage, there are: extraordinary evaluation of the candidates for the Superior Council of Magistracy and Superior Council of Prosecutors (pre-vetting); clearing up the competences of the Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office as regards the combating of the big corruption.

Also, decision-makers are to promote a package of normative acts which are to remove the influence of oligarchs in the political, economic and mass media sectors – this represents one of the recommendations of the European Commission from June 2022.

President Maia Sandu noted that the measures left must be finished till late next March, stressing that it was necessary that all competent institutions speed up the efforts of implementing the action plan. ‘’The European integration is our country project, which, once implemented, will ensure peace, the country’s economic modernization and the improvement of the people’s living standards. This is a project to which we everybody can and must contribute,’’ the head of state said.

The CNIE members also agreed on working out a plan on adjusting the national legislation to the EU acquis.
