Chisinau, 23 Jan. /MOLDPRES/- In 2022, net foreign currency transfers to private people from the Republic of Moldova reached the historical maximum of 1.75 billion dollars, or up by 126 million dollars than in 2021. However, compared to salary, the transfers were 2 ,3 times lower than in 2005-2008.

According to economic expert Veaceslav Ioniță, compared to the previous record from 2008, last year's transfers were up by 89 million dollars. "They could have been even higher, if in 2022 we did not witness a strong depreciation of the euro against the dollar. 2/3 of the transfers are in euros and, recalculated in dollars, they decreased by at least 80 million dollars", said Ioniță.

For data comparability, the expert reported the transfers from abroad to the salary obtained by Moldovans in the country. Thus, in 2005-2008, official transfers from abroad were higher than the salaries received in Moldova. Currently, even if the transfers have reached the maximum share of 1.75 billion dollars, they are still two times lower than the salaries obtained by Moldovans in the country.

Ioniță said that remittances continue to play an extremely important role in Moldova's economy, but it is much weaker than 15 years ago. Compared to salary, transfers are currently 2.3 times lower than in 2005-2008.
