First batch of wood from Romania reached Moldova

Chisinau, Feb. 1 /MOLDPRES/- The enterprises for forestry, subordinated to the Moldsilva Agency will starting today transport firewood from Romania, through the Stânca-Costești and Albița-Leușeni customs points. The UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) purchased a volume of 2,100 m.c. of wood from Romania. It is a first installment of wood purchased from Romania, and other volumes will be contracted if needed.
According to the Ministry of Environment, the wood will reach town halls in the country and will be distributed to pensioners over 70, people with disabilities, families with refugees to support and foster care centers.
The Chisinau government requested the Bucharest government to contribute to cover the shortage of wood from the reserves of the National Forestry Authority - Romsilva.
Previously, other international organizations also contributed to providing firewood to vulnerable families in Cahul, Soroca and other localities.
Through the instruction of the Commission for Emergency Situations, non-domestic consumers were allowed to procure up to 200 sterile meters of firewood, of soft and resinous species, for their own use.
