Moldovan PM has meeting with European Commissioner for Justice

Chisinau, 2 March /MOLDPRES/ - Prime Minister Dorin Recean has had a meeting with European Commissioner for Justice Didier Reynders, on a working visit to Chisinau, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.

The officials discussed the strengthening of the rule of law state and continuation of the reforms in the justice sector. PM Dorin Recean said the authorities were resolute to edify an honest justice system, given that the reformation of this sector and the fight against corruption are important aspects on the way of Moldova’s accession to the European Union.    

Dorin Recean noted that a special chapter in the action programme of the current cabinet was dedicated to justice. The basic priorities are focused on the evaluation of judges and prosecutors (vetting), delimiting the competences of the Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office and the National Anticorruption Centre, as well as on the draft law on de-oligarchization.      

„Everything the government will edify must be sustainable and reliable, including in the justice sector. We want the citizens of Moldova to have confidence in the state’s institutions, be protected in their country. Even if this might last more than it was scheduled, we are determined to successfully implement the planned agenda of reforms,’’ Prime Minister Dorin Recean said. 

European Commissioner for Justice Didier Reynders reconfirmed the European Union’s support for the Moldovan government’s agenda of reforms and congratulated the new PM on his swearing in this office.    

For his part, Dorin Recean thanked the European official for expertise and the financial support provided by the European Commission for carrying out the reforms in the justice sector.

The officials also reviewed economic and security aspects. In the context, PM Dorin Recean reiterated that there was no danger of military escalation of the situation in Moldova. ‘’Now, the priority is for us to ensure the safety and well-being of our citizens. We will work in continuation, in order to reconstruct the economy, consolidate the energy system and speed up the process of integration into the European Union,’’ Prime Minister Dorin Recean added.
